New boiler supplied and fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Like-for-like replacements, system conversions and full heating upgrades across Swindon and Wiltshire. Honest pricing, Gas Safe certificate included.
A new boiler is a significant purchase. The brand matters less than most people think — installation quality, system preparation and the correct specification for your property make the bigger difference. The survey visit is where this is worked out: property size, number of bathrooms, water pressure, existing pipework and your budget all feed into what gets recommended.
Gas Safe registration number 574706. Vaillant Advanced Installer. Trading since 2013.
A legal requirement for anyone installing a gas boiler in the UK. The registration is on the public Gas Safe Register and checkable before any work is booked. A Gas Safe certificate is issued at the end of every installation and is required for any future warranty claim or property sale.
Vaillant Advanced Installer status is the highest tier of Vaillant accreditation. It means extended manufacturer warranties are available on Vaillant boilers — up to 10 years on qualifying models — and that the installation meets Vaillant’s own standards, not just Gas Safe minimums. Most Swindon engineers cannot offer this on Vaillant products.
Fitting a new boiler onto a dirty system without flushing is one of the most common causes of premature failure and voided warranties. A chemical flush or powerflush is carried out before the new boiler is connected on every installation — not an optional extra.
The wrong boiler type causes problems regardless of how well it is installed. Here is a plain-English breakdown of what suits what.
Heats water on demand — no hot water cylinder or cold water tank needed. Best suited to smaller homes and flats with one bathroom and moderate hot water demand. Swindon’s newer estates and the large stock of 2 and 3-bed semis built since the 1990s are well served by combis. Not ideal for properties with two or more bathrooms running simultaneously, or where shower pressure is already marginal.
Works with a hot water cylinder but no cold water tanks in the loft. Good for larger homes with multiple bathrooms, where simultaneous hot water demand would stress a combi. The cylinder stores hot water so several taps can run at once without pressure drop. Particularly appropriate for the larger Victorian and Edwardian properties in Swindon’s older areas and the extended family homes on established estates.
The traditional setup: boiler, hot water cylinder and cold water tanks in the loft. Still found in many older Swindon properties and correct for those that have the space and a gravity-fed system working well. Often the right choice when replacing like-for-like in an older property where converting to a combi would mean significant pipework changes that are not justified by the benefit.
Moving a boiler to a new location, switching from one type to another, or converting from a back boiler (still found in a number of Swindon houses built in the 1960s–70s). These jobs involve new pipework and are more complex — they take longer and cost more, but can open up kitchen or bathroom space and significantly improve heating performance. A survey is always needed before quoting these.
Most heating engineers push one brand heavily — often because they hold a commercial accreditation with that manufacturer. Here is an honest view of the main options.
Vaillant boilers are well-built, reliable and backed by strong parts availability. As a Vaillant Advanced Installer, we can offer extended warranties of up to 10 years on qualifying Vaillant models — the standard warranty for a non-accredited installer is typically 2 years. For most Swindon homes, a Vaillant ecoTEC or ecoFIT is the recommendation: straightforward to service, good efficiency and a long manufacturer track record.
The extended warranty is only available through an Advanced Installer. It is worth asking any installer quoting you what warranty they can actually offer on the brand they are recommending.
Worcester Bosch makes excellent boilers — well-built, widely supported and with strong extended warranties available through their accredited installer scheme. We install Worcester Bosch and can quote on any of their range. If Worcester Bosch is what you want, or your existing system is set up around it, that is a perfectly good choice.
Ideal, Baxi and Glow-worm are reliable mid-market options at a lower price point and worth considering for a budget-led replacement. We fit all of these. Brand choice is discussed at the survey stage based on your property, budget and preferences — there is no pressure toward one manufacturer over another.
Not everyone searching for a new boiler actually needs one. If the boiler is under ten years old and has been regularly serviced, a repair is often the better call — even an expensive one. The honest answer depends on what has failed, the boiler’s age and service history, and whether parts are still available. A diagnosis visit will give you a clear picture of whether repair or replacement is the right move, without any pressure toward the more expensive option. See the boiler repair page for more.
Based on completed jobs and current supplier pricing, here is what most Swindon installations cost in 2026:
Like-for-like combi replacement — the most common job. Same location, same boiler type, new unit and controls. Typically £2,200–£3,500 installed, depending on the boiler brand and output selected. Usually completed in one day.
System boiler with cylinder — new boiler, new or replacement cylinder, controls and system flush. Typically £3,000–£5,000 depending on cylinder size and existing pipework condition. Usually two days.
Conversion or relocation — switching boiler type, moving the unit or back boiler removal. Typically £4,500–£7,500 depending on the extent of new pipework required. Needs a survey before quoting.
These figures include the boiler unit, flue, controls, system flush, Gas Safe certificate and all labour. Any additional work identified during the survey is quoted separately and agreed before it goes ahead.
Want a quicker steer before booking a survey? Fill in the quote form with your boiler type, approximate age and what you are looking for — most enquiries get a ballpark figure back promptly.
Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm and Potterton among others. Brand recommendation is made at the survey once your property type, system configuration and budget are known — not picked from a price list before the visit.
All boilers installed carry the manufacturer’s warranty. Warranty registration is handled at commissioning. Keeping the annual service record up to date is the main condition of most manufacturer warranties — skipping a service year typically voids the remaining cover.
If you are considering switching from gas to a heat pump, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently offers a government grant toward the cost. This is worth asking about if your property has reasonable insulation — the grant significantly reduces the upfront cost of a heat pump installation. See the heat pumps page for more detail.
For straightforward replacements, a ballpark figure can usually be given from a description of the existing setup. For anything more complex, a brief survey visit is needed. Either way, a written quote is provided before any commitment.
The old boiler is removed and disposed of. The system is flushed. The new boiler is installed, connected and commissioned to the manufacturer specification. Controls are set up and explained before leaving.
The Gas Safe certificate is issued at the end of the job. Manufacturer warranty registration is completed at commissioning. A copy of the paperwork is kept on file and available on request.
A like-for-like combi replacement: £2,200–£3,500 installed. System boiler with cylinder: £3,000–£5,000. Conversion or relocation: £4,500–£7,500. All figures include the boiler, flue, controls, system flush and Gas Safe certificate.
A like-for-like combi replacement is usually one day. A system boiler with cylinder is typically two days. Conversions and relocations depend on the complexity — confirmed at survey.
Combi suits most smaller Swindon homes with one bathroom. System boilers suit larger properties with multiple bathrooms. Conventional boilers are often the right call for older homes where the existing setup is working well. Confirmed at the survey visit.
Yes. Removal and disposal of the existing boiler is included. Old boilers are disposed of correctly — controlled substances handled in line with current regulations.
Modern condensing boilers run at over 90% efficiency. Older boilers, particularly pre-2005 non-condensing units, often run at 70–80% or less. For a Swindon home running full central heating through a Wiltshire winter, the efficiency gain is usually noticeable on the gas bill within the first year.
Not always. For like-for-like replacements, a ballpark figure can often be given from a description. For conversions or anything involving new pipework, a brief survey visit is needed before a firm price can be given. Either way, nothing is committed until you have the full figure in writing.
